a boy and a boo boo

We interrupt our back dated posting, to bring you current time news. Caleb has a "boo boo" as he calls it. He has always been quite interested in his and others "boo boos", and now he has one that beats all the others. He dislocated his left elbow, called a nurse maid elbow. Apparently rather common, his pediatrician says she sees several a week. But this was our first kiddo to end up with x-rays, a visit to an orthopedist and a casted sling. The sling will be on for a few days to keep the elbow immobile and let the swelling tendon go down. Then he'll be good as new.
For now he looks quite pitiful.

Though the teddy bear sling is cute and he's not sure whether he likes it or is annoyed by it.

Lauren made this nice little "bed" for him to watch some movies while he tried to stay still.
He enjoyed the extra TLC, but the being still part was hard to maintain.

Hoping for a speedy, uneventful recovery.

How to Properly Enjoy a Chocolate Bunny

Aaron, a veteran chocolate lover, enjoys his bunny the following way.

Step 1. Find a comfortable place, preferably away from a little brother who will try and take your bunny.
Step 2. Then begin to carefully unwrap your bunny

Step 3. Look closely and examine your progress, look for potential problems like elastic string around the neck

Step 4. Continue unwrapping until bunny is just pure chocolate

Step 5. Savor the site and take pride in your accomplishment

Step 6. Start with the ears

Step 7. Chew thoroughly as to really enjoy the treat

Caleb, the novice, is still working on his method.

Step 1. First try biting through everything to see what's inside. When you discover it's chocolate and someone tells you to take the paper off first, you just rip the elastic string and hope everything else falls off.

Step 2. Get the ears uncovered and just start eating, while walking around of course, because there's no need to slow down for this.

Step 3. Eat the ears then stop to try and figure out what to do next (pause for a cute photo)

Step 4. Decide that things might go better if you're not moving, but sitting while chewing

Step 5. Decide to unwrap the whole bunny while sitting, boy this is hard work

Step 6. Take complete joy in your successfully uncovered bunny

Step 7. Begin to eat your bunny again, starting with the ears and no wrapping
Step 8. Decide that you can again, eat your bunny while walking around

Easter Visit

Some other pictures from our Easter weekend visit with friends.

Caleb and Eliana our so funny to watch together. They really enjoyed each other this visit.
They had fun following each other around and sharing a love for other peoples shoes.

What's more fun than a snuggle and a good book with a friend?

Well maybe a ride with a friend.

Caleb does this to me when I'm cooking, but I hadn't gotten a picture so I just had to take this one, while Leslie was stirring. He likes to take his booster seat, put it on the floor and act like he's watching a show. This time he even brought a snack with him. It just cracks me up.

We have a lake behind our house and a newly put in trail to it. We walked around the lake and some of the kids decided to do some fishing with Roger. Nothing was caught, but we broke in a new fishing pole.

Watching some ladybugs that we have been "raising" for a school project. We got larvae and have watched the lifecycle progress. Lauren and Daniel were quite interested in this.

Caleb and Eliana having some fun outside. The pictures didn't come out so well, because it was very sunny and bright and they were in constant motion. But I had to include some, because they were so cute together.

Ken got out his riding lawnmower with wagon and gave the kids a ride. They had fun piling in and going around the street and yard. It needed some help going up the steep hill on our side yard.

All to soon it was time to say goodbye, so there were hugs all around.

Easter

Just some photos from Easter. Our friends from NC, the Nelsens, came to visit us. We were so excited to have them.

We made little chicks out of half a twinkie, some gummy slices and icing. They got to sit in a sweet crispie treat nest. Fun to make and yummy to eat.

Our church had an Easter egg hunt on Saturday. It was windy, cold and looked like it might rain. The rain held off and we were able to enjoy some of the fun games and food. Lauren and most of the other kiddos were even willing to enjoy a frozen treat.

The egg hunt included 10,000 eggs. The weather put a slight damper on attendance so there were many eggs to be found. The little kids got to hunt in one section, while the olders had their own more difficult hunt. This was Caleb's first egg hunt and he at first wasn't quite sure what to do or why. Aaron, as a good big brother, showed him how and then let him in on the fact that the eggs were filled with candy. He was then a very enthusiastic egg hunter.

They also had a drawing for a new bike, and our friends son won. Ken enjoyed testing it out with Aaron and Caleb.

One of our traditions for Easter is to make Resurrection Rolls. Relaying the story of Jesus' burial while making them (marshmellows rolled in butter and cinnamon and then tightly covered with a crescent roll). When baked the marshmellow has dissappeared and we can talk about his resurrection. Both Aaron and Caleb had fun making their rolls this year.

Caleb also really enjoyed eating his. He ate several and licked his fingers clean.

An Easter Day picture of the kids, of course between the sunshine and the wiggly kids we took about 15 pictures hoping for one where everyone looked at the camera with their eyes open, this was the best one.

We had a wonderful Easter with our friends and enjoyed our celebrations both at church and at home.
